Raw Wood Deck Cleaning in Dighton, MA Using Olympic Deck Wash
Bringing a Weathered Deck Back to Life
JCB Painting recently completed a deck cleaning project in Dighton, Massachusetts, where the goal was to restore a raw wood deck that had lost its color and brightness over time. The homeowners wanted to maintain the natural look of the wood without staining—just a clean, refreshed surface that showcased the deck’s grain and character.
Before Cleaning: Gray and Weathered Wood
Like many outdoor decks in New England, this one had been exposed to years of sun, rain, and seasonal humidity. The wood had turned gray and dull, with a layer of mildew and ground-in dirt. Before cleaning, I inspected the boards to ensure they were sound and suitable for washing.
The Cleaning Process with Olympic Deck Wash
For this project, I used Olympic Deck Wash, a dependable cleaner that removes mildew, dirt, and weathered gray fibers from exterior wood surfaces. It’s an excellent choice for restoring raw wood decks without damaging the surface with high-pressure power washing.
Here’s the general process I followed:
Pre-rinse: The deck was thoroughly rinsed to remove loose dirt and debris.
Apply cleaner: Olympic Deck Wash was evenly applied across the surface using a pump sprayer. Simple but effective.
Dwell time: The solution was allowed to sit for about 10–15 minutes, letting it penetrate and lift contaminants.
Scrub and rinse: I used a soft brush on stubborn areas and then thoroughly rinsed the entire deck with low-pressure water to reveal clean, natural wood.
The Results
After rinsing, the deck’s original wood color returned, and the surface looked bright and refreshed. The transformation was immediate — years of weathering were stripped away, leaving the deck clean and natural-looking.
Applying a Clear Olympic Finish
Once the deck was completely dry, I applied a clear coat of Olympic wood finish. This transparent sealer protects the surface from moisture, UV damage, and mildew while keeping the natural beauty of the wood visible.
The clear coat went on smoothly and evenly, giving the boards a subtle sheen and bringing out the grain’s richness. It also helps prevent the deck from graying again over time.
Why Regular Deck Washing Matters
Even if you’re not planning to stain your deck right away, keeping raw wood clean prevents mildew buildup and extends its lifespan. Periodic washing with a quality cleaner like Olympic Deck Wash helps maintain the wood’s integrity and appearance year after year.
